Critical pedagogy is central to my teaching. This involves pushing students to consider the assumptions and consequences – both in terms of knowledge and lived experience – of the ideas we explore in a given course. Over the past decade, I have put this critical pedagogy into practice in a variety of courses at universities across Canada, including York University, Ryerson University, the University of Winnipeg, and Quest University Canada. These courses include:
Global Perspectives (theme: Mental Health and Illness) [syllabus]
Psychology of Gender [syllabus]
Psychology of Sexuality [syllabus]
Self, Culture, and Society (theme: Emotion) [syllabus]
Social Psychology [syllabus]
Research Methods: Qualitative [syllabus]
Statistics
Rhetoric
History of Psychology
Introductory Psychology
Culture and Psychology
Teaching Resources
As part of my commitment to critical pedagogy, I have also collaborated on the development of a number of teaching resources. These include the seven-video series Gender Matters: Using Gender Based Analysis in Psychology, each with accompanying teaching guide.
